SPRINGFIELD, IL – September 02, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
Cummins Dental Group in Springfield, IL has continued to serve patients through a multi-dentist team that includes Dr. Ethan M. Duewer, D.M.D., whose work in routine care and urgent visits has been described in recent public comments from people treated at the practice. The group has operated for more than 30 years and currently serves 2,500 to 3,000 active patients from Springfield and areas as far as St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. Duewer grew up in Edwardsville, Illinois. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 2017. The practice biography states that he is passionate about dentistry and serving people in the community, has interest in mission work, is an avid outdoorsman, and is an active member of his local church.

Cummins Dental Group provides general and cosmetic dentistry for patients and family members of all ages. Services listed by the practice include dental cleanings and oral examinations, along with emergency dental care, tooth-colored fillings, dental crowns and bridges, dental implants, and other preventive, restorative, and cosmetic treatment. Routine preventive visits typically include a comprehensive oral examination of the teeth, gums, bite alignment, and overall oral health, a professional cleaning to remove plaque and buildup, and digital X-rays when clinically appropriate. Most preventive visits last about 60 minutes, and the practice states that appointments are not rushed.
Recent patient reviews from Cummins Dental Group’s Google Business profile have focused on Dr. Duewer’s manner during both scheduled and unscheduled visits. Clay H. wrote that Dr. Duewer and the staff provided care that left teeth feeling cleaner after treatment and that the office responded when an emergency arose. Jennifer B. described an emergency appointment for a fractured tooth that required extraction and said Dr. Duewer took time to keep her at ease despite longstanding dental anxiety. Diane D. reported that Dr. Duewer arranged a next-day visit for a second opinion after four days of nerve pain, diagnosed and treated the problem shortly after she arrived, extracted a molar, and later called to check on her. She also noted that she traveled about an hour to the office.
Those accounts sit alongside the practice description of emergency care and preventive visits as part of the same clinical setting. The group states that many dental issues develop without early pain and that regular examinations allow concerns to be identified before they become more complex. Visit frequency is commonly every six months, with adjustments for patients who have gum disease, extensive restorations, or other ongoing needs.
Dr. Shannon R. Cummins, D.M.D., is a Springfield native and head dentist at the practice. He graduated from Griffin High School in 1979, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Benedictine College in 1983, and received his D.M.D. from the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 1987. He has spent more than 30 years serving the community.
“Ethan brings a thoughtful approach to patient care, and that matters whether someone is coming in for a regular cleaning or dealing with a dental problem they didn’t expect,” said Dr. Shannon R. Cummins, D.M.D., lead dentist at Cummins Dental Group. “We want our patients to understand what we’re seeing, what their options are, and what we recommend for the next step.”
Dr. Vincent M. Israel, D.M.D., is a Springfield native who graduated from Glenwood High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, while playing collegiate football, and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. He practiced in Osage Beach, Missouri, at the Lake of the Ozarks before joining Cummins Dental Group in January 2022.
“Taking our time with patients makes a difference, especially when someone is coming in because they’re uncomfortable or worried about what’s happening,” said Dr. Vincent M. Israel, D.M.D. “Having several dentists in the practice also gives us the ability to work together and keep communication consistent from one visit to the next.”
The practice describes its philosophy as knowing patients as individuals in order to provide more friendly and individualized care. It welcomes new patients and those returning after time away, stating that the approach is calm and structured and that a comprehensive evaluation is used to outline next steps. Preventive care is presented as a way to identify concerns early and reduce the chance that minor issues progress into more extensive treatment.
Cummins Dental Group is a locally owned dental practice that provides general and cosmetic dentistry for patients of all ages. The team includes Dr. Shannon R. Cummins, D.M.D., Dr. Ethan M. Duewer, D.M.D., and Dr. Vincent M. Israel, D.M.D., and has served the Springfield area for more than 30 years.
