Sea and Stars, the Gothic historical romance by Kelly Jarvis, has received the Literary Titan Book Award, honoring the novel’s evocative blend of Celtic folklore, historical romance, Gothic atmosphere, and emotionally resonant storytelling. Set between the mist-shrouded Isle of Skye and the shipbuilding village of Mystic, Connecticut in 1847, the novel follows Arabella Porter, a lonely healer gifted with fairy magic, as she journeys across the Atlantic in search of the father she has never known.
When Arabella receives a mysterious letter from the past, her life is transformed. Leaving behind the moors, sea mist, and inherited wisdom of her matriarchal line, she travels to Mystic, where she encounters not only the family secrets that shaped her mother’s life, but also James Alden, a handsome shipbuilder with a shadowed past of his own. Drawn together by longing and divided by duty, Arabella and James must confront forbidden desire, family loyalty, personal freedom, and the dangerous truths hidden beneath the surface of polite society.
Literary Titan praised Sea and Stars as “a lush, earnest, and feminine novel about choosing which traditions to keep and which ones to cut loose,” recommending it to readers who enjoy “historical romance with folklore in its bones, Gothic family secrets, strong heroines, sea-haunted settings, and stories about women learning that home can be inherited, built, and bravely reimagined.” The review also commended Jarvis for writing landscape “as if it’s alive,” noting that the Isle of Skye breathes around Arabella through “sea mist, thistle, moor wind, and starlight.”
Inspired by the traditions of Gothic romance and framed as a sensual, slow-burn Beauty and the Beast retelling set in the real world, Sea and Stars explores the transformative power of love, the complexity of inherited stories, and the courage required to define home on one’s own terms. Through Arabella’s relationships with the women who guide and protect her, the novel also honors generational female knowledge, intuition, healing, and the wisdom often dismissed as mere folklore.
Readers who enjoy historical romance, Celtic folklore, Gothic imagery, strong heroines, and emotionally layered love stories can find Sea and Stars on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
