The investigators also noted differences between the red and black varieties.
The study is useful evidence that Maca has been investigated directly in humans, but it does not establish that every Maca supplement will produce equivalent outcomes.
The trial used specified varieties, a defined 3-gram daily quantity and a 12-week intervention. SodaPeak’s current public webpage identifies Maca extract as an ingredient but does not disclose an individual amount or enough extract specifications to establish equivalence with that study.
More recent research has continued to investigate Maca in exercise-related settings. Ashwagandha, or Withania somnifera, is another botanical with a substantial body of human research.

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial published in 2026 studied a low-dose standardized ashwagandha extract in 60 adults experiencing self-reported stress. Participants received 30 mg per day or placebo for 28 days. Researchers evaluated perceived stress, mood, fatigue and physiological responses to a controlled stress procedure.
The researchers noted that many earlier ashwagandha studies had evaluated quantities ranging approximately from 250 to 600 mg daily over six to eight weeks, highlighting how significantly formulations can differ. This variation makes the exact product specification important.
Simply stating that a formula contains ashwagandha does not establish that it matches a particular extract evaluated in a controlled trial. Root-only extracts, root-and-leaf extracts, withanolide concentrations and extraction methods can differ among commercial preparations.
Because SodaPeak’s public product material reviewed here does not state the individual ashwagandha amount or standardization, findings from existing trials should be understood as research on ashwagandha preparations rather than clinical evidence for the SodaPeak finished formula.
Safety also deserves context. NCCIH notes that short-term ashwagandha use may be tolerated by many people but that side effects and interactions are possible. These studies demonstrate that concentrated green tea preparations have been evaluated experimentally in people, but they should not be interpreted as proof of a generalized energy or performance effect.
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health additionally notes that green tea contains numerous compounds and that evidence remains insufficient for many of the broad health outcomes commonly associated with green tea supplements. Published research has examined extracts of Ptychopetalum olacoides in laboratory and animal models. For example, researchers have investigated its effects on cholinergic enzyme activity and memory-related experimental endpoints. These findings provide a basis for further scientific investigation but do not constitute evidence of comparable outcomes in people. Human research is substantially more limited.
One published 28-day human safety study evaluated a multi-herb preparation containing Muira Puama together with several other botanical ingredients. Researchers did not report severe adverse reactions or significant hematological or biochemical changes during that study.
However, because Muira Puama was only one component of the preparation, the research cannot determine the independent contribution of Muira Puama. The distinction between an experimental botanical study and a controlled clinical efficacy trial is particularly important here.
It would be inaccurate to characterize Muira Puama as clinically established for energy, stamina, focus or another defined outcome based on the currently available evidence cited in this review. A more scientifically appropriate description is that the botanical has undergone experimental investigation while controlled human evidence remains limited.
Catuaba Research Is Primarily Preclinical
Catuaba is a traditional Brazilian botanical name that can refer to material derived from different plant species.
One species frequently investigated in scientific literature is Trichilia catigua. Researchers have examined Trichilia catigua extracts for antioxidant activity and fatigue-related outcomes in experimental models. A published study evaluated several extracts in laboratory assays and animal models of fatigue, stress and memory and reported biological activity worthy of additional research.
These findings should nevertheless be classified correctly. They are preclinical findings rather than evidence that a Catuaba-containing dietary supplement produces the same effects in people.
Another challenge involves botanical identity. Research examining commercially available Catuaba preparations has found variation in the plant species used under the Catuaba name. That means the exact species and extract specification are important when comparing a commercial ingredient with published scientific literature.
The SodaPeak website reviewed for this release identifies Catuaba extract but does not provide a botanical species, extraction ratio, standardization or individual quantity. Without those details, it is not scientifically appropriate to assume that research involving Trichilia catigua or another Catuaba species directly applies to the ingredient used in the product.

Research comparisons are most informative when the following details are available: the quantity of each active ingredient, the botanical species, plant part, extraction method, standardization level and total caffeine content per serving.
Without those details, consumers and researchers cannot reliably determine whether a commercial preparation resembles the preparations used in published trials.
